MLB Players with Oregon Ties: Recap for April 29-May 5

Having left his last start after 1.1 innings because of dizziness and shortness of breath, the Colorado Rockies Tyler Anderson (University of Oregon) recovered and defeated the Cubs Wednesday, improving his record to 2-0. Anderson gave up two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out nine over seven innings. He threw 71 of his 100 pitches for strikes.

The Miami Marlins Dan Straily (Thurston HS and Western Oregon University) returned from the Disabled List (inflammation in his right forearm) to make his season debut Monday night. The right-hander gave up four runs on six hits in four innings in his season debut.

Matt Boyd (Oregon State University) of the Detroit Tigers gave up just one run on seven hits in six innings while picking up the 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday. Boyd is 2-1 for the season with an ERA a respectable 2.48.

After tearing up the International League for the Charlotte Knights, Jace Fry (Oregon State University) was called up to the Chicago White Sox Friday, May 4. In 6.2 innings pitched at Charlotte, Fry logged an ERA of 1.35 and 0.48 WHIP with an 11:0 strikeout to walk ratio. Since being called up, Fry has appeared in two games and has pitched three scoreless innings without giving up a hit.

With a loss Saturday to the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City’s hard luck starting pitcher Jason Hammel (Treasure Valley Community College (Ontario)) has dropped to 0-4 for the season. The Royals have lost all seven games that Hammel has started, but have scored two or fewer runs in five of his starts.

The Giants Nick Hundley (Corvallis) had an impressive week going six for seven (.857 batting average), capped off with a four for five performance Wednesday night against the Padres with a two-run homer, two doubles, a single, and scoring four times.

The Mariner’s Ryon Healy (University of Oregon) capped off a 9 for 24 week (.375 batting average), including three home runs, with a walk-off base hit in the 11th inning Saturday night to give the Mariners the victory.
